Confession: I miss being a kid

I have a confession to make. I miss being a kid.

This is what I’m thinking about this morning as I sit down to write this and my toddler is literally streaking through the house. She doesn’t care what anyone thinks. She’s happy to have a pretend tea party and watch cartoons.

She’s happy doing her thing.

That’s what so many of us lose as adults. We feel the need to do the “right” thing. We spend too much time caring what other people think and watching what other people do. We’re so focused on what’s happening outside, we forget what’s happening inside and we lose our uninhibited child.

To be successful in life, you need to learn to read, write and do basic math. That’s the same for all children. In business, you also need a few things to be successful.

  • A business strategy
  • A marketing plan
  • A product or service to sell
  • A desire to achieve your goals

Just because the fundamentals are the same doesn’t mean you have to do things the same way as someone else. Every child learns to tie their shoes. Some use the standard knot, some use bunny ears and some use the circle method. The point is they all get their laces tied so their shoes don’t fall off.

I know you want to be happy doing your thing.

If you’ve lost your spark or are just going through the motions, maybe you need to get back in touch with that kid you used to be. You want to be happy and screw what everyone else thinks. You do you and I promise you'll feel good about it.

Think about the things you used to do as a child. Maybe you climbed trees, pretended to be an animal or a school teacher, or spent time with yourself reading lots of books. How did those things make you FEEL? I bet you felt invincible and you could do anything.

NEWS FLASH! You still can do anything.

Build your sand castle, go on an adventure in the woods, do something you haven’t done in a while. BE HAPPY!

Tell me what you want to do in the comment below.
